“Aspire” Triathlete #1
I was working on my panning technique at the recent People’s Triathlon here in Gqeberha. Got a lot of bad shots (and I mean A LOT), but there were a few that were not too bad, like this athlete from Aspire triathlon club.
Taken with a Canon EOS 6D Mark II and my favourite 100mm Canon macro lens.

Southern Red Bishop Side-Eye
I’m going through old photos, and found this photo of a Southern Red Bishop eating and giving me the side-eye, taken at the Marievale Bird Sanctuary. This was taken before I joined DPC and learnt to shoot RAW, so it was shot as a JPEG, which means I didn’t do a lot of editing on it, just cropping and some texture…Read More

Lighthouse Rust
Another photo I took recently at the Cape Recife Lighthouse in Port Elizabeth. I loved the texture of the metal and rust on this sign. When you live at the coast, dealing with rust is a big part of your life and something that I am sure the lighthouse keepers have spent a lot of time managing throughout the years.
Taken with my…Read More

Inside the Prism
We were lucky to get the opportunity recently to climb up in the Cape Recife Lighthouse in Port Elizabeth and view the lantern. It was an interesting experience, to say the least!
I took this photo with my Samsung, as the lens on my camera wasn’t nearly wide enough to capture the amazing fresnel glass lens in all its glory. I…Read More -

Tequila Sunrise
Tequila, orange juice and grenadine for the “sunrise”
Playing with some backlighting to try and get that glowing warm look. I used flash coming in from the right back, with a white reflector to lift the shadows in the front a bit.
Taken with my Canon 650D and my Canon 100mm macro lens, on a tripod.

Oats and Blueberries
Going out of my comfort zone and playing around with dark and moody for a change. It was really interesting how much work I had to do to cut down the light, especially for the background, to get the feeling I was going for.

Rosalie, congratulations on a job well done. The way you’ve manipulated depth is commendable, with the blueberries leading the viewer’s eye from the foreground to the background seamlessly. The composition is well-balanced, focusing on the three primary elements: the bowl at the forefront, the blueberries to the left, and…Read More

Rosalie, great job on the storytelling with this photo – I immediately got the story you were aiming to tell, which is a big win. It fits our photo theme really well. I’m thinking, if you had moved a bit closer and cropped tighter, while still keeping the background elements in the frame, I think, would have had much more v…Read More

Berry Hungry
#WildlifeComp2023 #birdphotography
I shot this hungry little Cape White-Eye and its hard-working parents in my garden a week ago. The baby was quite tame and didn’t mind me following them around the garden with my big lens. It wasn’t quite mobile yet, although it could fly short distances and up into the shrubs, and spent…Read More
