After attending the One-day architectural workshop on Sunday, 26 Nov, and the Zoom meeting on Architectural editing, I created the following HDR Panorama.
I wanted to create the feeling of a warm family home at night and went for a warmer edit with the lights in the house. I did a sky replacement in Photoshop and made the sky also a bit…Read More

A quick portrait of my son. I was playing with back lighting. My vision for this was a mysterious and dramatic B/W portrait. I wanted to emphasize the tattoo on his arm.

Jacques, your use of rim lighting for separation is great, yet the focal point remains unclear as your subject’s brightly lit tattooed forearm commands much visual attention. Considering the subject’s masculine demeanor, it seems you were aiming for a dark, moody portrait. Adding a bit more fill light, or lighting a part of his face in an…Read More

I took this photo during one of @trompie-van-der-berg ‘s On Locaction Lighting workshops. I went for a more dark and dramatic B/W edit.

Close up B/W portrait. (Cropped close during editing). Impromptu portrait shoot in my small home studio. Due to a low ceiling, I could not get the height of the flash very high. Key light was an AD200 Pro and the hair light/fill light a Godox V860ii.

Studio portrait I took at the end of 2022. Can it be called split lighting? Used colour grading in post processing to tint the shadows a little blue.

The split lighting is perfect, and the separation between your subject’s right shoulder and the backdrop is well-executed. We would have liked to see a bit more of your subject’s face, and the head might be better if not as tilted. Overall, a well-executed low-key portrait.

From a recent matric farewell shoot I did. I just love the shadow on the ground and the hint of blue from his arm and the slight peak of her dress. The watch was almost blown out, but I managed to get some detail back.

Jacques, the sky replacement in your Photoshop edit gives the impression of sunset colours, which doesn’t align with the actual shooting conditions of nautical twilight. For a more accurate depiction, consider using a sky that better represents nautical twilight, typically characterised by purples rather than blues.
