DPC Photo and Photographer of the Year Awards 2024

Welcome to the DPC Photo Awards and Photographer of the Year Competition 2024, where not only is recognition at stake, but also exciting prizes for our esteemed participants! Exclusively tailored for DPC subscribers, every photo you upload to your personal profile or community groups becomes a contender in our Photo Awards. Each week, we spotlight the best with our Weekly Photo Award winners, who are then in the running for the Monthly Photo Awards. Given the many different genres, it’s possible for multiple images to gain the spotlight in both Weekly and Monthly awards.

The crowning jewel of our awards is the Photographer of the Year title, an honour bestowed upon someone who, aside from having at least one Monthly Photo Award, consistently impresses with their submissions throughout the year. To further celebrate the talent within our community, we also highlight seven Category Winners, handpicked from the Weekly and Monthly Photo Awards.

Categories

Wildlife: Showing off the entire animal kingdom, from majestic wildlife to minuscule insects. This category include all facets of fauna – reptiles, insects, wildlife, avian creatures, marine life, macro shots, domesticated animals, and even pets. This is your stage for animal diversity.

Travel and Landscapes: Revel in our planet’s magnificent landscapes and landmarks, from towering mountain peaks to serene countrysides. Features include landscapes, countrysides, seascapes, night and astro photography, urban elements in travel settings, and detailed macro shots of nature.

Architectural: Celebrate human-made marvels, from ancient pyramids to modern skyscrapers. This category encompasses traditional and modern builds, urban scenes, interiors, industrial settings, and abstract architectural patterns.

Portraits and Lifestyles: Explore the human experience through portraits, fashion shots, celebratory moments, and action-packed scenarios. This category covers individual/group portraits, fashion, glamour, newborn photography, weddings, sports, and candid moments.

Abstract and Objects: Explore both abstract concepts and static objects in this category. Transform everyday items into art by emphasising their inherent beauty, textures, and patterns. Focus on aesthetics through light, shadow, and compositional tools. This category accommodates a wide array of subjects, from large machinery to small trinkets, including automotive elements and products.

Urban and Street Photography: Capture the unscripted, candid moments of urban life, focusing on contrasts, fleeting interactions, urban geometry, and more. This category delves into the pulse of the streets, from fleeting moments and candid expressions to the interplay between people, architecture, and nature.

Conceptual Photography: Venture into the imaginative realm where photographers craft narratives within their shots, stirring deep emotions and thoughts. This category spans symbolic representations, surrealism, heavy photo manipulations, narrative imagery, and themed works.

Culinary and Food: Capture the essence of food in all its glory, from preparation to plating. This category includes diverse subjects such as ingredients, cooking processes, and plated meals, as well as the cultural and social aspects of food. Whether it’s a close-up of textures or a wide shot of a dining experience, make every shot deliciously compelling.

Videography Awards: Stay tuned! We’re expanding our horizon with Videography Awards next year. Whether you’re a novice videographer or a seasoned filmmaker, exciting updates are on the horizon. In the meantime keep posting your videos on our Videography Community Group

Judging

We’re dedicated to maintaining the integrity and standard of the DPC Awards. A panel of expert and pro photographers will be evaluating and selecting winners for the Monthly Photo Awards and Photographer of the Year Awards.

Participation

  • Open to Basic, Pro, Luminary Members, and non-full-time Tutors.
  • Pro members enjoy an added advantage as their submissions from the Pro Photo Theme are also considered. This privilege doesn’t extend to Basic members.
  • Full-time and part-time staff might have their images featured in Weekly and Monthly Photography Awards as honorary mentions, even though they aren’t competing.

Submitting your Photos

The DPC team will automatically select top images from those you upload to your personal profile or a relevant community group. To simplify the process, we’ll tag any images that move on to the awards phase. No need for you to tag or submit your photos separately.

Competition Structure

  • Weekly Photo Awards: Each Friday, the DPC Team will post the best images of the week to our Weekly Photo Awards.

  • Monthly Photo Awards: These will be selected from the Weekly Photo Awards and announced by the 5th of the following month.

  • Photographer of the Year Awards: Our 2024 competition will close on 30 September 2024. The Category Winners and Photographer of the Year will be announced on 15 October 2024!

Submission Guidelines

  • Submissions are unlimited, and our team will automatically scan photo uploads.
  • Only individual images are considered, with albums or collections excluded. Photos must be original works taken within the last five years using any camera type.
  • Each submission should have a title and description detailing the capture and editing process.
  • While editing, including composites, is permitted, all elements must be original. AI editing tools, such as skin retouching, are acceptable, but AI-generated content isn’t.
  • We may request original RAW files or JPEGs for verification.

Image Quality and Content

  • Submit high-resolution images, preferably 1600px on the longest edge. Avoid images that are slanderous, libelous, or contain unlawful or offensive material.

Licensing and Rights

  • Photographers retain all rights. However, by participating, you grant DPC promotional rights to display winning or highlighted images. Any additional usage requires explicit photographer approval.

Disqualification

  • Plagiarism or any breach of terms, conditions, or ethical guidelines will lead to competition exclusion.
