Everyday Moments – Our Photo Theme for the Festive Period

“The boy and girl going hand in hand through a meadow; the mother washing her baby; the sweet simple things in life. We have almost lost track of them.” — Edward Steichen

As the festive season unfurls its tapestry of joy and reflection, we are thrilled to unveil our bimonthly photo theme: “The Simple Things.” Drawing inspiration from the reflective words of Edward Steichen, this theme harmonises exquisitely with the spirit of Christmas and the dawn of the New Year. It beckons us to pause and contemplate, to capture those fleeting, everyday moments – the unadorned yet profound simplicities that life offers us.

In this era of relentless pursuit and complexity, “The Simple Things” invites you to a journey of rediscovery, to find beauty in the mundane, to celebrate the ordinary yet extraordinary facets of daily life. It’s an invitation to look closer, to find the poetry in the familiar, the art in the everyday.

We invite you to join us in exploring “The Simple Things.” It’s an open-ended theme, focusing on what matters to you personally. Here are a few ideas to ignite your creativity:

  • “Everyday Moments”: Capturing the beauty in daily routines and ordinary scenes.
  • “Nature’s Simplicity”: Focusing on the simple yet profound beauty of the natural world.
  • “Human Connections”: Showcasing the simple, unspoken bonds between people.
  • “Minimalist Vistas”: Encouraging a minimalist approach to composition, emphasizing less is more.
  • “Childhood Innocence”: Capturing the pure, simple joys of childhood.
  • “Pets in Their Element”: Photograph pets in their everyday life, like a cat gazing contemplatively through a window, or a dog joyfully playing in the yard.
  • “Home Comforts”: Celebrating the simple comforts and joys found in one’s home environment.
  • “Rustic Charm”: Focusing on rural and rustic settings, where simplicity often shines.
  • “Quiet Moments”: Photographs that capture tranquillity and peace in everyday life.
  • “Textures of Simplicity”: Highlighting the beauty in simple textures and patterns.
  • “Street Simplicity”: Observing and capturing unembellished, candid moments in urban settings.
  • “Travel and Encounters”: Capture interesting encounters of other people and cultures if you’re traveling on holiday. Focus on the unique interactions, traditional practices, or everyday life in different cultural settings.

We invite you to interpret this theme according to your particular genre or specialisation. The scope is wide, but your visual message needs to be simple and convey the simple things.
