Lovely image Bruno.
Hippo jaws are specially adapted to open their mouths extremely wide without tearing the skin or ligaments. This behavior is mostly used for hippos to display their teeth and jaws, which is a sign of aggression that is meant to scare off predators or other hippos competing for their territory.
