Devilish Thoughts
Going through old photos, I re-discovered photos I had taken while attending the DPC Studio Lighting course MANY years ago (pre-Covid and before Studio 012). Unfortunately I cannot remember the model’s name, she was actually a make-up artist by trade, and an incredible subject. Converted the photo to black and white for more…Read More2 Comments -

So little but says so much through the power of tonality. Well done with this feature, Luke!

“Aspire” Triathlete #1
I was working on my panning technique at the recent People’s Triathlon here in Gqeberha. Got a lot of bad shots (and I mean A LOT), but there were a few that were not too bad, like this athlete from Aspire triathlon club.
Taken with a Canon EOS 6D Mark II and my favourite 100mm Canon macro lens.

Vintage Vibes Collection
Gear Used:
Camera: Canon EOS400D Digital, f/2.2, ISO100
Lens: Canon 50mm-
A nice set of pictures, Riette. I really like the angles and the nostalgic feel. While the desaturated vintage effect works well, I think adding a bit more colour pop and contrast could enhance this beautiful set even more. Please upload these pictures to the OneDrive folders so I can show you how I would have edited them in our upcoming Monday…Read More

Very nice. The insects is such an imporatnt part of life.
Most of the insects we are familiar with are tiny little things, but praying mantises are among the giants of the insect world. The praying mantises we see locally can be 2 inches to 3 inches long or even more, but don’t let that fool you into thinking they will be easy to spot.Despite…Read More

Hi Renate just my penny’s worth—I would have loved to see more subject and less background in these shots. The backgrounds feel quite busy, which makes the subject get a little lost, especially since the colours aren’t popping. John Fox has a great system where he sometimes uses a colourful paper backdrop to make insects stand out. It’s som…Read More

About Me
Albertus Van Jaarsveld
Part-time Photographer | DPC Assistant Instructor | Information Systems Student |Gear head| Tutor
Part-time photographer and DPC Assistant Instructor. By day, I’m studying Information Systems, but photography is my true passion. As an intern and problem solver for Danie Bester, I get to do what I love most: tinker with tech, explore new gear, and find creative solutions to everyday challenges.
I’m fairly new to the photography scene, which means I’m still all over the show when it comes to genres—because hey, there’s always a problem to solve and something new to learn! Whether I’m in the studio or out in the wild, I’m equally comfortable capturing the perfect shot. My genres are still evolving, but that’s part of the fun!
As a tech and gear aficionado, I’m always up for a chat about the latest gadgets. Just don’t ask me to pick a favourite camera setup—I’m under strict orders not to say! 😉
I still remember this studio lighting workshop! The harsh, directional light and the black-and-white conversion are perfect for the model—this definitely deserves a feature! I’d love to edit it during the next ProLounge meeting.
