Southern Red Bishop Side-Eye
I’m going through old photos, and found this photo of a Southern Red Bishop eating and giving me the side-eye, taken at the Marievale Bird Sanctuary. This was taken before I joined DPC and learnt to shoot RAW, so it was shot as a JPEG, which means I didn’t do a lot of editing on it, just cropping and some texture…Read More

Nice and sharp. Great composition too! There is a slight halo effect around the wings, which seems like a post processing issue. Fix it and upload again for a feature!

Thank you. The halo around the wings is from post-processing. I will definitely fix it.

Thank you for posting John, you captured wonderful action here. Good light in the eye, well exposed, and very sharp. I’m not sure if you croped this image like that however, if not, just a tip, always better not to zoom in so much to allow for more drama in your composition. It would have given your image the impact thats lacking here. Have a look…Read More

Hi Bruna. Thanks. I totally agree. Zoomed it would have been ideal but the whole incident happened in about 5 seconds and I was hand holding at only 1000 sec (and I’m not as steady as I used to be). So i figured my best bet was to get the shot I could and trust my 5d had the resolution to allow a crop.

Lowlight Photography: No matter how good cameras get, it can be very difficult to take high-quality photos in low light! That’s true of every camera, from a cheap phone to a high-end DSLR or mirrorless camera. Simply put, low light photography is hard. Hunting at Sunset

Sitting at a waterhole at last light, he suddenly appeared and started walking towards a heard of impala. Very little time to get the shot and the long grass made focusing extremely tricky.

Tip – shooting into the sun
