Thickbilled weaver female foraging in a White Stinkwood tree.
Thickbilled weavers mainly occur in the eastern parts (KZN and Eastern Cape) of South Africa but there is a small isolated population in Gauteng. They eat insects, fruit and hard-shelled seeds that they open with their strong beaks. This hen is enjoying the hard seeds of a white stinkwood tree. They are usually gregarious in flocks of up to 50 birds and rarely solitary or in small groups. In our garden they are usually seen in a small group.

The image is sharp where it matters most, and the dramatic angle works beautifully, keeping the viewer’s attention focused on the subject’s well-exposed eye. The natural framing created by the tree’s branches and the treat adds visual interest. Overall, the image is clean, engaging, and well-presented.
