This print would look stunning in the right interior space, though its hefty $4.3 million price tag is certainly up for debate. Art has always been subjective, and one key aspect of Gursky’s work is that it should be assessed within the broader context of his entire collection and his unmistakable “dispassionate” style. He markets not just his images, but his unique approach, and has succeeded in selling his style and philosophy to high-end galleries and collectors. As photographers, we should commend him for emphasising that photography can be art.
