Before DPC: An amateur photo
“Summer Reindeer”1/640sec, f/4.2, ISO 400, 122mm, Nikon D3200
I took this photo long before joining any DPC course, i.e., Before DPC, back when I kept my camera in auto mode. Reflecting on this photograph—a personal favourite owing to my fondness for reindeer—I acknowledge the potential for enhancement. In a hypothetical revisit of that moment, I would opt for manual settings, fine-tuning the shutter speed, and employing metering to sharpen the focus on the captivating eyes. The inclusion of a reliable tripod would also mitigate any inadvertent shaking, resulting in a more polished visual narrative. I remain appreciative of the privilege to immortalize the grace of this animal, but I also look forward to improving my photography skills.

Shooting in Auto Mode isn’t always ideal, but you and the camera have done well to capture this moment, which is the essence of photography. Of course, using Manual Mode, or one of the Creative Modes, and shooting in RAW would give you more control. Now that you’re more adept with your camera, we’re keen to see what you post next. A tip on composition: the shot is cropped a little bit too tightly; allowing more space around the antlers would enhance it.
Nonetheless, congratulations on your first post. As a Pro member, you can expect more critiques to aid your journey to photographic excellence!
