JPEG XL
Small in Size. Big in QualityLightroom Classic rolled out a cool new feature where you can export your RAW images in JPEG XL (.jxl) format! So, what’s JPEG XL? Think of it as Jpegs on steroids!
Here’s the scoop: JPEG XL is this nifty new image compression format that takes everything we love about traditional JPEGs and kicks it up a notch. It’s all about squishing down that file size without losing the precious quality of your photos. The result? Top-notch images that don’t hog all your storage space, making it super handy for both keeping and sharing your pics.
Let’s talk Pros and Cons:
Advantages: JPEG XL’s got some serious skills in handling color depth. Say goodbye to annoying banding and hello to spot-on color accuracy. It’s perfect if you’re craving better quality than what JPEG offers but don’t want the heftiness of a RAW file.
Disadvantages: Being the new kid on the block, not every app, plugin, or service out there, like some printers, is ready to play ball with JPEG XL just yet. So, you might hit a few bumps when it comes to using it in every aspect of your workflow.
Now, for the big question: Is JPEG XL going to be the next big thing? It sure has the chops, especially with folks wanting their pictures to look fab without eating up space. But let’s be real – it might take a little while for it to become the go-to format everywhere, probably a few years. I’m betting it’ll get there as more tech gurus jump on board to support it.

Pixel Pete
Parody Tutor
Hi there! I'm Pixel Pete, and if you think a pixel is just a tiny dot on a screen, you've never really seen the beauty of perfection. To me, each pixel is a world unto itself, a piece of the grand puzzle that must fit just right. Blurry photos? Oh, the horror! I'm here at DPC to ensure that each image is as crisp as a winter morning. And if you ever find a pixel out of place, don't fret. Just call me, and I'll lose sleep over it so you don't have to!

It’s unfortunate that the .jxl format hasn’t caught on yet. Considering it was only released in 2022, it seems it will take a while before it becomes mainstream.
