    Red Shoes, Maboneng, 2019

In the bright daylight shade, to achieve a shutter speed of 1 second, I lowered my ISO to 50 and set the aperture to f/18. This slow shutter speed, combined with deliberate camera movement, created an abstract impression of my subject, garbed in green with pink hues in her dress and handbag, and notably, striking red high heels. The green undertone of the wall and the ground textures complemented the composition perfectly.

Lightroom edit: Applying Ted Forbes’ 1990’s Kodachrome Preset. I chose a square crop to give more prominence to my subject and for consistency with other images in my collection that share a similar colour palette and cropping style.

    • Am assuming that you also generated some camera movement based on the blurring of the background and pavement grid.

About Me

Danie Bester

DPC Founder, Programme Director. Fine Art and Commercial Photographer

The more abstract forms of photography like impressionism and minimalism intrigue me. I prefer creating images that depict energy, mood, and silence. To illustrate my themes, I use mainly long exposures, selective focus, and focus blur. My philosophy is that the camera is just a paintbrush and that thought-provoking images stem from a developed mind.
